Missing my Grandad

Now playing: The Cranberries - LingerMy grandad died sixteen years ago today. He was 68, and had lung cancer. Given six months at diagnosis, he was gone in nine weeks, and I only got to see him once in that time.

I miss him so much, more so as I get older. I wish he could be here today to see the person I am now. I'd love to sit and listen to him tell me stories about his time in the navy, during which his submarine was torpedoed by the Germans, or teach me snippets of Morse code.

Spending a while looking over family photos, epecially some of the silly ones from when I was a kid, like the one of him playing on my newly received toy piano, one Christmas Day would be a gift now. Yet doing it when he was still here would have been something I just took for granted...

I was always the favourite grandchild, probably because I was the youngest for my first ten years. I have so many memories to look back on and smile at, but how I would love to still have him here to make new ones as well.
